I recently found myself downplaying the importance of picture books.

I did this because I write picture books, and, as a woman, I reflexively belittle my own accomplishments (in real life; on social media, I have more moxie).

So for the record: picture books are everything...

Picture books are poetry,
Education,
Unsung heroes finally sung.

They're art,
Shared laughter,
Parental love between two covers.

When I was finding my footing as a mom, picture books helped me find my voice. A way of being with an infant. A way of being with a toddler.

Picture books are not great because I write them.

I write them because they are great.

And anyone who looks down on kidlit can kindly go step on a Lego.
