What I WISH people would understand is, when you go to a shelter to adopt a dog or cat, how they act *while in the shelter* is likely so different than how they would act in a home.
'Cause think about it.....dogs barking constantly, they don't know why they are there, they're scared and anxious, they're being handled by people they aren't familiar with at all......like YEAH an animal is going to be stressed in that environment!
I've seen TOO MANY animals returned to shelters because they aren't the "same" as when they got adopted. Like....huh? You adopted an animal that just came from a high stress environment. They are gonna be different.
And! Some of them DO act the same! Some ARE just shy and maybe need help trusting people. That's why you gotta remain open and accepting of whatever new family member you adopt
*this is not exclusive to dogs or cats* every animal is their own individual being with thoughts and emotions! No two dogs are the same, no two pigs are the same, no two cats, chickens, iguanas, ferrets, or fish are the same!
