You ever stop and think how 2020 is, without question, the worst overall year in recent US history, and then try to figure out what the last year that can reasonably be compared to it would be?

I still have not figured out a good answer. There are a lot of really awful things that happened in recent US history (many of them ongoing, e.g. mass incarceration), to be clear, but hard to think of one year that was this much worse than the year that preceded it.

Consensus seems to be 1968 but I dunno, 2020 seems worse overall. I realize this isn't a very productive exercise except to say we live in exceptionally bleak times! And no one in power has any relevant experience to help them make sense of it!
