if there’s anything that actually gives me genuine hope for canon supercorp (or at least the supercorp that katie is fighting so hard to get us) it’s this scene from 5x19

this scene, on the surface, could seem to be a scene putting lena and alex on equal ground as kara’s “sisters” and her main two support system figures. on paper, it could absolutely read like that But, when you actually see and Hear the scene, it takes on a different meaning

actually Hearing how the words are said changes everything. here, you can hear the differences in delivery from chyler & katie. katie says the line with reverence, while chyler says it with her usual belief in kara, almost casually bc it Is casual for her

there’s also a difference in body language. katie looks at melissa the entire time, making sure to have eye contact and truly engage with kara. she’s trying to show her belief in kara through her face and eyes

now look at alex. she’s looking down, again /casually/ because to her Of Course kara can do it. and Of Course her sister knows that she believes in her, so it’s not important to make eye contact. notice too how alex’s body is open, because she’s not being vulnerable

lena, on the other hand, has her arms crossed protectively over her body. she’s being vulnerable in this moment for letting her admiration for kara be so loud and clear, that she crosses her arms as if she’s on the defensive

i just think that this scene intentionally differentiated lena from alex as two different kinds of figures in her life. whether they wrote it that way or not, the direction and how katie played the scene Made it into that. and that’s where writers lose the “well we didn’t Intend”

because no matter the intention, that’s how the scene was played when it left your hands. and you can’t deny people that after the fact. that’s not how it works

this is also just something cute i noticed but i Loved how they stayed on alex’s reaction to lena and her saying the same thing at the same time! she does a little flinch and it seems to be a moment where She realizes too just how much lena admires kara
