Lately I've been reading a lot of Canadian graphic novels and comics and they've been a wonderful distraction. I'm going to recommend a few of my favourites in this thread. Please reply with any recommendations of what I should read next! #IReadCanadian #CanLit #CanadianComics
"Hiver Nucléar" by @cabtastic. This was the first book I borrowed from the library after moving to Montreal. This book had me seeing the city in new ways and made me excited to get out and explore my neighborhood. It also made me even more afraid of racoons!
"Ramshackle" by @AlisonMcCreesh is an amazing travelogue and story about finding a new home. It put Yellowknife at the top of my list of places to visit in Canada and reminds me to look for beauty in small places.
"This One Summer" by @marikotamaki came highly recommended and was truly worthwhile. It was such a thoughtful and reflective story that had me thinking about the summers of my own youth. If you haven't read it yet, add it to your list!
"Two Generals" by @scottchantler felt so personal. I appreciated the commitment to tellings this story and all the research it must have taken. It had be longing for a few more conversations with my grandfathers.
Although "Essex County" by @JeffLemire is widely popular, it felt like personal gift to me. I have family from Essex County and used to spend some summer holidays in the area. I haven't been back in years and these stories helped me feel reconnected.
"Death Threat" by @vivekshraya was unlike any other graphic novel I've read. Creating a story out of internet hate mail is not and idea that would ever cross my mind. Gripping.
"Woman World" by @aminder_d had me laughing loudly in the library and I am one of those people committed to staying quiet in a library. If you saw the webcomic (or not) its worth checking out the book!
