Danny Ings vs Jimenez

Both these forwards had strong 2019/20 campaigns. As a result both have been priced at 8.5m.

Ings has consistently outperformed his expected stats. However, given the eye test this is expected. He takes on and scored shots most ST won’t.

One statistic I look at a lot is Goal Involvement.

This is the percentage of goals their team scored that are involved in when on the pitch.

This just shows it’s so hard to chose between them.

If we consider the fixtures of the two teams.

Southampton = average difficulty of 2.5 rating

Wolves = 2.75 average fixture difficulty rating

Very little to split the two sides in terms of fixtures. Both have a high potential for returns.

The final thing worth noting is consistency.

= 4.76 from 38 apps.

Jimenez has been more consistent than Ings with a stronger 218/19 season.

Overall Jimenez is the safer option here
He returns equal with his xG
He has returned strongly for two seasons now.

However Ings has a higher ceiling
Outperforms xG and scored chances he shouldn’t
Stronger opening few fixtures

From what I’ve seen above it depends on team structure and how much of a risk you want to take.

The big question is whether Ings numbers are sustainable.

Looking at it I predict some regression but a strong season for Ings

If I had to chose between the two I’d go Danny Ings
