Among my favourite things about teaching was that I got to meet my amazing first gen law students from far-flung towns. These young people figured out how to write and excel in the difficult-to-access law school entrance exam. It meant everything to them.
Thinking of all the students who just learned that their dream school is out of reach because they can't access a laptop and a high-speed internet connection. And of the last talk I heard Shamnad Basheer give, in which he said these are the students who will change the world.
An exclusionary entrance exam is tragic for the students and for the law school that will lose them. Hopefully they'll still write the CLAT and pick a different school so that the rest of us in the legal community don't lost them as well.
