I'm going to use every gun control argument in the book to ban your motor vehicles. If this tweet sounds ridiculous to you, at least now you can appreciate how we view your arguments directed at our firearms.

Let's begin.
Motor vehicles are seen by many as a necessity, or something that they need. This is false, in Canada owning a car is a privilege and as such, when the private ownership of vehicles endangers the lives of canadians, they can be expropriated.
The WHO estimates that there are around 1.35 million annual fatalities caused from car accidents. That number increases further when vehicular homicide is included. Keep in mind, these are deaths caused by licensed drivers. Digging into those numbers further, it gets frightening.
In Canada alone, there was an estimated 25.1 million cars in 2018. Similar to that number, there are between 20-50 million injuries every year caused by these vehicles. The danger to public safety is enormous. But it gets worse.
According to MADD, in 2014 there was approximately 2300 lives lost in Canada because of vehicles. Over half of that, at near 1200, was caused because of alcohol. Compare that to gun related homicide, where the average homicide over 25 years is 145, cars are clearly a huge risk.
The statistics are quite clear; the private ownership of vehicles is a danger to us all. No child should worry going to school because a drunk driver might run them over. Or a family driving gets T-boned by a drunk driver.
Even with licensing, its clear that people cannot be trusted to operate a motor vehicle safely. I mean, you're only a law abiding driver until you're not. The risk is too great.
Another huge issue is theft. Someone without the means to their own vehicle can easily steal a legally owned one, and cause huge harm with it. A car can't be stolen if it was never owned in the first place. The truth is no cars = no deaths from cars. It's common sense.
For all the reasons above, I believe only the military, police and government agencies should have access to vehicles. All cars should be banned and bought back, then scrapped to fund a government owned transportation service. If it saves only one life, its definitely worth it.
Honourable mention: No one needs a car that can exceed the speed limit.
