If you haven& #39;t yet voted in the UCU VP election, please do asap! Voting is a way to be involved that doesn’t require a lot of time. If you’re struggling to decide based on statements, then talk to people you trust who work directly with the officers – branch reps, or NEC reps. 1/
I& #39;ve voted for @MarianMayer20. Having worked with her as an HE negotiator for the past 15 months, seeing her local branch organising work, and seeing her answers at hustings events, I think she& #39;s the best candidate to take on the role of HE VP right now, for a few reasons:

1. Marian is deeply committed to collective action. We& #39;re fighting on all fronts right now: uni management is recklessly pushing for return to campus, while dismissing staff on FTCs, while cutting pay, threatening staff with redundancies, and our pensions are under attack...

We need a coordinated response. It’s not fair to leave branches on their own, nor to expect regional offices to be able to simultaneously support every single branch. Marian has consistently talked about the need to coordinate local & UK-wide campaigns. I agree wholeheartedly

2. Marian has experience with (and ideas about) campaigning in Post-92 institutions, and we need more of these voices in our union right now. The “same” issue (e.g. workload) shows up differently in Pre- and Post-92s, and we need to support members in all of our branches.

3. I’ve worked w/Marian for 15 months as HE negotiators, & during that time, we’ve felt comfortable (constructively) disagreeing w/each other & compromising. I can’t overstate how important it is that our leadership handle disagreement (& inevitable criticism) productively.

4. There’s been a lot of discussion recently about the functioning of NEC/HEC, including chairing. I believe that Marian would chair responsibly.
I don’t think these things are all completely unique to Marian fwiw, but I do think she’s the candidate who most exemplifies them.
