My aunt asked me to help her figure out when this photo might have been taken because she knows research deep dives are my deal. I showed the elf and he said, “My grandparents have a wedding picture just like this, it’s probably from the thirties... or forties... or fifties...”
It was funny because he started out pretty confident in his assertion that started out wrong and got wronger but I’m having a hard enough time narrowing it down within the 20s because you can see so little of the dress!
It’s definitely a 1920’s bouquet and a 1920’s headpiece. Lots of ribbon love. I just think that headpiece is trendy enough that I can pin down a range if I can find sone referents.
I feel like it’s probably early-to-mid rather than late, since her hair is fluffy and might be pinned.
It’s funny because it *feels* like an intuitive process to date this picture — because in a way that’s what I feel intuition is: pattern recognition that hasn’t quite made its way to articulation. Like, knowing if something coheres even if you don’t have the vocabulary to explain
