Under the liberal conception of relationships, the highest form of love is 'love of the other person's choices' because liberalism conceives of the self as constituted out of its choices- if one does not love their choices, one does not love them

But this is not how ppl actually are. Ppl we love make bad choices all the time, and the solution isn't to pretend that they're 'good choices' because someone we like made them

A good relationship isn't based on an 'objective assessment' of what the other person will be capable of providing. Yes, a subjective assessment will be made, but beyond that one places their faith in the totality of the relationship's potential, as represented by one's partner
