comparing dean winchester and sirius black; a thread
neither of them got to have a normal and joyful childhood. dean never got to be a child because he had to grow up and take care of his little brother sammy, and john was an abusive and neglectful father, who put way too much pressure on him.
dean was only a kid and had too many responsibilities. he should have spent his time playing and learning, instead of taking care of another kid.
sirius went through emotional and mental abuse (and probably physical too) while growing up. and even if it’s not completely clear what he had to go through in his house, it was bad enough that he chose to run away.
let’s add that he was still very young (only 21) when he was locked up in azkaban, which robbed him of the opportunity to grew up and become an adult.
despite the shitty childhoods and all the awful things that happened to them, they still have their inner child. and in my opinion, this is why they both act in a childish way sometimes.
they both had to lose people they loved and cared about. sirius lost james and lily, and dean lost a very long list of people he got close to, along with sam and castiel (again and again).
neither of them deal with their emotions in a healthy manner. in fact, they both find solace in alcohol.
they’re self-sacrificing and would do anything to protect their loved ones. both of them would easily trade their lives in order to save their friends and families.
let’s talk about the parallelism between dean and sam, and sirius and harry. dean would give his life to protect his little brother sam, and sirius would do the same for his godson harry.
and they both actually end up doing it. dean sold his soul to save sam, and sirius died protecting harry.
now, while dean had to be the one to raise sam, he had to be both a father and a mother for him, sirius hasn’t had the chance to do the same with harry. but we all know he wanted to, and he was planning to give harry a real family.
in conclusion, they’re both wonderful men, with such big and kind hearts, who would do anything for their loved ones, and who deserved way better lives.
