1) In 2017 , He was forced to sell their club's star Neymar Jr.
Neymar had a release clause of €222m , Bartomeu never thought that his release clause could be triggered.

After the departure of Neymar , Barcelona had a budget of almost €1 Billion and had one job - replace Neymar Jr.

Even after Neymar left , Barcelona squad had a wage bill amounting to approximate €600m.

Barcelona are currently under a debt of €700m which was loaned by Bartomeu for the renovation of Camp Nou.

Bartomeu appointed Eric Abidal as their sporting director in 2018.

Till 2019 , the fans went on blaming their manager Ernesto Valverde for the club's decline in recent years.

After Valverde's departure , Eric Abidal made a statement saying that the players aren't giving their all to the club.
This statement had a certain Leo Messi fuming.

This was the beginning of the end of Barcelona's board.

Bartomeu spent more than €600m to replace Neymar JR including players like Coutinho , Dembele , Malcolm and Griezmann.

Later on it was found out that Bartomeu paid a company called 13 Ventures to help him.

What the company was asked to do -
Create fake profiles on social media that would -

• Defame certain players/staff.
• Criticize his rivals who will contest him in the 2021 election.

The company was paid using the club's money.

In 2020 , The teams captain thought he had had enough of the board and decided to leave.

What Bartomeu did?

He blocked the move and held Leo Messi hostage asking for any club who wanted him to pay his release clause (€700m).
