For every news article about how a family decided to have a cookout & now 74 people connected to attendees have coronavirus, there should be 100 about how a company reopened & forced workers to choose illness or loss of income, causing incalculable spread.
I’m sick of centering blame for the continued spread of coronavirus in individual choices, when our government chose before the pandemic even hit our population to center profit at the cost of human lives. And the media has failed in their role of directing the conversation.
As for all of us sharing the articles, I get it: we sacrificed a lot to try to control the spread & there’s a deep sense of betrayal in seeing others choose not to. And we tend to see the actions of those directly around us 1st. But please remember who the greatest betrayers are.
People are struggling to uphold standards of perfection that should never have been demanded of them for half a year (w/ no end in sight), at the cost of their mental health, relationships & quality of life. We’re better off screaming at those who did this to us than each other.
