This here is the offshoot of a river I grew up next to. It's the namesake of our family. It's in a sorry state, used to flow freely and flood every spring. Partially due to infrastructure and global warming it's a algae filled still reservoir where mosquitoes breed.
The river gave its name to the plot of land, which gave the name to the house, which gave the name to the esteemed Vedenoja family +300 years ago. Further records were burned in the church fire that was lit by a lightning bolt.
The house was built on a tall foundation of solid granite to withstand the river floods. It's up to my ribs. When I was a kid I remember the river climbing right up to the house foundation. Excellent calculations.
The house was built ~1870 out of whole timber logs. The foundations and cellar predate the records. As a kid I was extremely scared of the cellar.
They say 'cellar door' is the most beautiful phrase in English. This one my dad built this year, as the old one was eaten away by 70 years of use.
Dirt floor and stone walls. Electricity was added in the 50's. Spiders the size of wasps hanging from the ceiling. You can't stand up, as the ceiling is naybe 1.2m tall. Handlaid arch roof made of slabs of stone. I don't think there's anything besides physics holding it up.
Anyway welcome to my catacombs, you got distracted by this thread and will not know the way out. Too easy, every time
