487 years ago #OTD in 1533, Queen Anne Boleyn gave birth to a healthy baby girl. She was named Elizabeth after both her grandmothers. Often in fiction this moment is seen as the turning point of Anne and Henry's relationship, but this was not the case.

Henry's initial reaction was relief that Anne and Elizabeth were healthy. In the 16th century this was often fatal. Yes the planned jousts were cancelled - just as they had been at Mary’s birth - but the birth of a Princess was more low-key.
There were celebrations however. A herald was dispatched to immediately proclaim the birth of Henry's first 'legitimate' child, while the choristers of the Chapel Royal sang the Te Deum.

A second and public Te Deum was sang in St Paul's Cathedral.
Plans were immediately put in place for a magnificent christening to follow three days later on the 10th September, which would be followed by bonfires and free wine in London.
It is ironic that while Anne’s enemies sneered at her for her ‘failure’ at not producing a son, this girl would become one histories most famous and successful Monarchs... Queen #ElizabethI.
