HM Son joined Hamburger SV in August 2008, aged 16. He broke through to the first team on the 2010-2011 season, whilst scoring 9 goals in pre-season which earned him his first professional contract. Fun fact: he scored 2 goals against Chelsea in pre-season.
On 13 June 2013, Bayer Leverkusen bought HM Son for about €10 Million. He was the most expensive signing for Leverkusen. He scored 3 in 3 in his first 3 exhibition matches. He ended up scoring 12 goals that season. Fun fact: HM Son scored an hat-trick when they were 0-3 down.
On August 2015, HM Son made the move to Tottenham Hotspur. The fee was £22 Million (€30 Million) which made him the most expensive Asian player ever. In his debut season, he scored 8 goals. Fun fact: Son scored his first 2 goals in the Champions League, against Qarabag FK.
In the 16-17 season, it was reported that HM Son wanted to leave Spurs for more playing time. Mauricio Pochettino gave Son a chance to fight for first team football instead. Son impressed, scoring 14. Fun fact: On 14 October, Son won the POTM, the first Asian player to do so.
HM Son has scored 85 goals in total for Tottenham Hotspur, whilst playing mostly on the wing. He has produced magic in many occasions, such as Tottenham’s Champions League. Fun fact: during the Global pandemic, HM Son returned to Korea to complete his mandatory military service.
