The first draft of every article I write is 75% math. Here's one I'm working on now. Dundas Street is 23 km long - 23,000 meters. Dundas extended the slave trade by 15 years. approx. 485,000 people disembarked into slavery in the British Caribbean during that period. 1
For every 100 people who arrived into slavery, 40 died. Either during the Middle Passage or on the march to the coast or their internment there awaiting shipment. That means nearly 200,000 dead over 15 years. 2
So if you were to rename Dundas Street for each person who died as part of the slave trade that Dundas extended for 15 years - the street would change its name each 11 centimetres. 3
