1. Gender ideology has completely captured the Home Office. So much so that it is now issuing advice to the security industry to basically disregard the fact that ID does not match the person carrying it:
"Be aware that you might get situations in which a trans person looks
2. different to how they look on their ID. While
some trans people do change their ID to their new identity, some trans people do not want to change their ID, others may not have changed their ID yet or they may be unable to change their legal identity."
3. One problem is immediately foreseeable: this is an open invitation to underage children to 'borrow' an older friend's or sibling's ID in order to buy cigarettes, alcohol, or enter licensed premises. If refused, then they can cry 'transphobia!'.
4. We are sure many of you can come up with even more worrying examples of how this ridiculous advice can be abused.
That's not all; the Home Office also misrepresents the Equality Act 2010 by telling people they may be at risk of prosecution
5. if they do not allow a man to use the womens' toilets by saying:
"stopping a trans person from using the toilet they feel is appropriate to them may create a risk of legal action being taken against the pub, club or venue you work at....workers may be held personally liable
6. for any unlawful discrimination or harassment they engage in."
This is completely untrue. Men who identify as women have NO RIGHT in law to use spaces for women and girls. Women have the right to single SEX spaces, free from males. It is lawful for men to be excluded.
7. The Security Industry Authority is an independent body that reports to the Home Secretary. @pritipatel and her team need to throw this nonsense out.
See this article for how this cannot work in practice: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-54026453
8. A spokesman for Wetherspoons said it remained a legal requirement for "a valid ID which resembles the person presenting it" to be provided when proof of age is needed.
So which is it @ukhomeoffice
Does ID matter, or do we throw out that requirement to avoid upsetting people?
9. Either way, this 'guide' is an utter pile of bull.
Do better. How can you tell us to #StayAlert and yet publish guidance that allows people to pretend to be who they are not?
If you have read this far, why not ask your MP for their opinion on this?
You can follow @CUPWomensPledge.
