activists with political aspirations in organizing spaces can suck up so much energy. be wary of them.
listening to the stories and the name dropping of 🔥 advocates many coupled with “before/then they went into politics.” I believed that changing from the inside was the way...but haven’t seen much to back that up.
it’s about who are you accountable to. If it’s the people, children, families, vulnerable, incarcerated, poor, working poor, working class it must be immovable. but most who move from advocate, activist or organizer to politician become accountable to other things
or when the 🔥 teacher becomes the principal. as I was told by one, I answer to the district and superintendent.
It’s a tactic to co-opt activists and the most vocal. To censor their voice, to placate other activists, to paint the illusion of progress and change, to divide.
Co-opted activists expect the same support and admiration they got before entering politics or leadership role. And when the heat continues they get defensive and pull one of my biggest pet peeves. “I’m trying just like you. I’m only human.”

Nah fam.
You inherited the legacy of the educational, political, social, capitalist system you choose to be a part of. The generational harm caused by it. So expect the heat.
And we aren’t equal. The power dynamic has changed. You now have systemic and legal power to do shit.

And if you’re about liberation you better show it immediately, constantly and openly in front of all of us to see.
