okay but all jokes aside here’s why the song ‘Beyoncé Sharma Jaayegi’ is problematic: A THREAD
(n/1) please look at the lyrics carefully, “Tujhe dekh ke goriya, beyoncé sharma jaayegi”, we all know that Beyonce is black whereas Ananya Pandey (a POC) is “fair skinned” & drawing comparisons between the two, the song suggests that Beyoncé is inferior (Beyonce sharma jaayegi)
(n/2) to Ananya just because she’s not “gori” (fair skinned) like the song suggests, implying that she has got to be ashamed because apparently bollywood believes that only one shade is beautiful! Now tell me how is that not racist and a perpetrator of the ideology that if you’re
(n/3) not fair, then you cannot be considered beautiful! Obviously, Beyoncé is living her life rn and won’t give a fuck about Bollywood thinks but what about the young impressionable audience that’ll listen to this song, it’s going to obviously ingrain unnatural and toxic
(n/4) beauty standards into their minds. Also the lyrics “Chamkeeli lachkeeli
Tu jo kamar yeh hilayegi” are derogatory towards curvaceous people like Beyoncé and other plus sized people. This song clearly bodyshames people and promotes that only women with a skinny waist
(n/n) are considered beautiful. Like the lyrics of this song are so problematic and the entire song promotes some deep rooted racism and bodyshaming! A 15 y/o can understand this but not a full blown team of the production on this song, make it make sense!?
