1. Today the case of Julian Assange resumes in the UK courts. It is one of the most pivotal and worrying cases of our time. We should be extremely concerned. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2020/sep/07/julian-assange-due-court-latest-stage-fight-against-us-extradition">https://www.theguardian.com/media/202...
2. If Assange is extradited he could potentially face a lifetime life in jail for reporting upon the activities of powerful governments across the world. It will also set a dangerous precedent to deter any journalists exposing Government secrets who fear the same fate.
3. Amnesty International has said Assange is at risk of “serious human rights violations including possible detention conditions that would amount to torture and other ill-treatment” in the US.
4. The espionage charges, Amnesty adds, “could have a chilling effect on the right to freedom of expression, leading journalists to self-censor from fear of prosecution”.
