It& #39;s strange that everyday people post number of COVID cases crossing 70k, 80k, 90k and behave as if things are going a lot worse each day

Yes things are bad but not alarming. To put things in prescribe, positive cases are a function of testing.

So High tests = More cases
If any govt wants to make things appear rosy they would reduce testing but Indian Govt has been doing reverse and have made it on demand

Which proves that the objective is not to manage headlines but to reflect the correct picture of the progress of the pandemic in India
Daily cases are so high in India as we have been doing over a million tests per day for the past week or so. US is doing ~ 700 K per day on an average.

We are doing 50% more daily tests than the most developed country in the world !!
It& #39;s easy to say we have 130 cr people so our tests will be high. But if you say so then you should also realize how difficult it is to move the machinery, arrange for kits, manpower and testing capacity to reach 1 million per day in a short span of time
The metric to look at is not total cases but positivity rate to ascertain id things are getting better or worse because it gives you an indication of what % of people are positive among tested.

India has been stable at 8% for few weeks now
For some days it goes up to 10% and for some it& #39;s 7% but broadly it& #39;s been in the 8% range for some time now

With testing being ramped up even more this should fall at around 5-6% in the next couple of months around the WHO target of 5% globally
Things are not better but they aren& #39;t going much worse as illustrated by absolute numbers. Things are more or less the same in the last couple of months and the positivity rate drive is actually & #39;flat& #39; for some time now
Of course the pandemic is still there and we have to take all precautions necessary especially wearing the mask & #39;properly& #39; when out in public, maintain social distances, refrain from large social gatherings in small spaces etc
