EXCEPTIONS where the bad character of a defendant may be allowed in evidence are:
• Where the bad character of the defendant is a fact in issue;

• Where the defendant has led evidence of his good character.

This will enable the Prosecution put questions to him to impeach or discredit his good character.

Notwithstanding the above on bad character of a defendant, the evidence that a defendant is of good character is admissible in criminal proceedings.
