I reread that original fb statement trying to understand what the issue was and there& #39;s literally nothing wrong with it. I& #39;ve seen multiple posts trying to say they used the term drama to refer to people calling out racism only they didn& #39;t.
It was a blanket term for everything that& #39;s been going on with our fandom on twitter. They didn& #39;t even say they agreed with KTF& #39;s fic (or any other fic people might have found racist) they simply were talking about how they didn& #39;t agree with the methods people have been using...
to express their feelings on these issues with attacking and eliminating people from our fandom.
This continues to be a trend now where it& #39;s not just individual people getting targeted but groups. Places which were once safe spaces where before we& #39;d seek shelter away from abusive antis now we& #39;re not even safe from members of our own fandom.
Absolutely BIPOC should feel comfortable enough to speak up if something makes them upset or uncomfortable or worse. These safe fandom spaces should also be safe for them too but that doesn& #39;t mean every conversation needs to be about race.
I also don& #39;t believe that means every situation should be resolved like people said this was racist so automatically it is so we& #39;ll remove it or said person. Group mentality can be dangerous and controlling and often times incredibly ignorant to facts.
I commend mods who take the time to look at each situation individually listening to everyone and don& #39;t just jump to rash decisions. Instead of angrily trying to bully these kinds of mods out of our fandom we should be thankful we have people who try so hard.
All I know is I& #39;m bi and have my own struggles with mental health and chronic health issues. I know that& #39;s all way different than people who face racism everyday but I still have triggers from sexual abuse and I& #39;ve faced homophobia.
My point is I dont expect every encounter I have and every space I& #39;m involved in to be tailor made for me. I know there are times I& #39;m going to be in situations where I come across things I dont like, that are triggering, upsetting, offensive and sometimes I have to deal with that
If I was in something like a discord or group chat and I saw something upsetting or was made to feel comfortable I might speak up or dm a mod and expect they& #39;d care about my feelings but at the same time I would know it& #39;s not my discord and I don& #39;t make the rules.
If I was really unhappy about a fandom space and they werent actively trying to hurt people (i.e. by protecting a sexual abuser or something) I would just leave that space. I certainly wouldnt go around on sm trying to trash them not if the mods had at least heard me out.
Just because you have an issue doesn& #39;t mean you& #39;re in the right. Again I agree that real intentional racism should be called out and issues on race need to be talked about but they don& #39;t have to be talked about all the time and in every space.
Tbh I find it kind of ableist to assume everyone can mentally handle talking about serious stuff 24/7. You dont know what people are living with mentally physically and in their life. Some could be living in an abusive home and getting to talk about SW could be their only escape.
I just wish more people in this fandom would try to listen more and try to put themselves in someone else& #39;s shoes and also try to recognize that just because you dislike something or find it distasteful or even racist doesn& #39;t mean that person should harassed or be run out of town
I just wonder where the line is because it doesn& #39;t feel like there is one anymore. People find something they don& #39;t like or don& #39;t agree with it it gets spread around fandom like crazy and the "offender" is attacked until they deactivate.
Which I& #39;m pretty sure you& #39;d be doing the same thing if you came across someone using the n word or saying worse on sm. So where is the line between hateful racists who literally think their lives are worth more because they& #39;re white and people who have a difference of a opinion?
