Let us learn about a lesser known/unknown ancient temple of North East India in #Assam #Tezpur district

SHIVA TEMPLE
also known as
DAH PARBATIYA TEMPLE

A rare ancient temple though in ruined state, remainants are quite captivating

The most magnificent feature unearthed at temple site during excavation by #ASI is 6th century extensively carved stone doorframe of Gupta period

The entire door frame is profusely decorated with intricate designs, dancing nymphs, floral patterns, serpents, garuda, godess...

Ganga & Yamuna at bottom along with images of many deities viz. Lakulisa, Krisna, Surya etc at top

The temple was erected at an elevated platform oriented in east-west direction & designed on the principle of square. The garbhagriha as well as mandapa are square shaped...

Actually a brick temple was erected by Ahom Kings upon the ruins of previous stone Shiva temple of late Gupta period (6th century)

But this historic Ahom's brick temple too faced a lot of storms & earthquakes turning it into ruins. Previous gupta period temple got exposed..
