a girl from my rez who disappeared a few years ago was light as fuck. she was my student. and shes fucking gone. somebody on here was saying a few weeks ago that darker native women disappear more than light ones do.

first, i want to point out what a fucking asshole thing that is to say. like, beyond asshole. like, youre a fucking prick for saying that shit. do you think the families of light-complected, disappeared native women feel less than those of the darker women? honest question.

another question: does someones life matter more depending on what color they are? im not talking about the way americans and candians look at us. im talking about how we look at us. are we actually gonna say that shit? do you want to openly say you value light women less?

another question: what are we solving by dividing ourselves along "color lines"? (as if such a thing existed in the way these types say it does.) are we restoring sovereignty? are re reversing supreme court decisions? are doing away with the doctrine of discovery?

nope. we're just being assholes to each other. what if i said something crazy. what if i said we dont need to look at each other the way canadians and americans look at us? what if we had better and deeper and more legitimate, less cruel ways of seeing each other?

i got sisters and nieces on the rez. women cousins. aunties. some of them are light-complected. you really gonna tell me im supposed to treat these women differently, *value* them differently bc of how the look? protect them more or less? care for them more or less?
