Kylian Mbappe, the only generational talent in football.

A thread.
At the age of just 17, Kylian Mbappe scored 15 goals and notches up 11 assists in Ligue 1. These figures helped Monaco dethrone financial titans PSG to win Ligue 1.
In the UEFA Champions League, Mbappe scored 2 goals in 2 games against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, which knocked them out of the tournament. Then, in the quarter finals, he scored three goals against Borussia Dortmund including a brace at the Signal Iduna Park. Iconic.
Later that year, Mbappe joined Paris-Saint Germain for €145 million. This made him the most expensive teenager in the history in the sport.
At the end of 2017, Mbappe became the second youngest winner of the golden boy after none other than Lionel Messi himself.
Mbappe’s goals against City and Dortmund with Monaco also made him the first player in UCL history to score in his first 4 knockout games.
At the 2018 World Cup, Mbappe announced himself to the world with a masterclass against Lionel Messi and Argentina.
In the World Cup final, Mbappe became the second teenager to score in a World Cup final after Pele. Not bad company.
Mbappe not only won the World Cup at the age of 19, but he also was voted the best young player of the tournament.
Later that year, Mbappe became the youngest player to make the FifPro World XI, at just the age of 19.
He also finished 4th in the FIFA Ballon D’Or standings that year, and he was also the youngest player to ever been nominated for the award.
Mbappe also became the highest scoring teenager in Champions League history, and his goalscoring figures are far ahead of other legends.
In 2017, Mbappe also finished 7th in the Ballon D’Or standings. This was ahead of the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane, both of whom were world class players.

He was the youngest person in history to finish in the Ballon D’Or top 10.
At the age of 21

Mbappe: 103 goals
Aguero: 75 goals
Neymar: 72 goals
Messi: 48 goals
Ronaldo: 27 goals

Mbappe is starting out much better than these top players did, but it remains to be seen where he will end up.
Following his hat trick against Club Brugge in 2019, Mbappe became the second youngest player to score 15 Champions League goals. Who was first? Lionel Messi.

Once again, not bad company.
In 2018/19, Mbappe finished as the top scorer of Ligue 1 with 33 goals. This was the second most of any player in Europe, and he was only behind Lionel Messi. This was also the first time that Mbappe finished as the top scorer of Ligue 1.
And although COVID-19 halted Ligue 1, Mbappe was nonetheless rewarded with the honor of being Ligue 1’s top goalscorer for the second consecutive season.
Despite this, Mbappe has yet to win a UCL. PSG were met with back to back round of 16 exits in the past 2 years before losing in the final to Bayern Munich this year.

But he’s only 22. He’s just getting started.
Mbappe is not a perfect player. He isn’t a future Messi/Ronaldo type player, but he is certainly on track to establish himself as a legend of the game. When you consider this one simple fact, Mbappe is the only generational footballer in the world currently.
