There& #39;s obviously lots of advice you can give people to interview better but at a certain point it& #39;s like explaining how to win the NBA championship. Could be that you& #39;re sticking your elbow out on the jumper, could be that 15 people win it a year. And not always different people
So I appreciate the desire to give people as much help as you can but the main reason people don& #39;t get good academic jobs is: there aren& #39;t any and it& #39;s not a meritocracy
I& #39;m always happy to GIVE what advice I can and others can give better. But I don& #39;t think the default should be "give advice." We will be kinder to each other consistently sending the message that it& #39;s just ridiculously hard than that it& #39;s controllable if you do the right things.
BTW - also happy to give jumpshot advice.
