The scene w Keyshawn, Derek & Diamond : when I read this part of the script I SCREAMED! I almost threw the script across the room! As a Black woman, as someone who’s witnessed abuse 1st hand, I was so mad at Keyshawn. But I had to honor what was written... #pvalley
As much as I disagreed with Keyshawn’s poor choice in judgement, it’s my job as an ACTOR to understand & not judge. She represents REAL women & men who have been thru & are living with abuse right now. Ppl like her really exist!
...which is why you see me in tears in this scene. I was so angry knowing this man had just used a slur, & I now had to protect him. It was my job to do so. &the thought of hurting someone THE ONLY ONE-who’d never hurt me really messed me up. It was hard 2look Tyler in the eye.
By far, this was the toughest scene I had to film this season but I know it hit home to so many who are living this in REAL LIFE. Shannon would’ve beat Derek’s ass. But I had to honor Keyshawn & people like her. 1-800-799-7233 << NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE. God Bless. 🙏🏾
...people really do protect their abusers in a moment of panick, because they’ve been told all too often that they’re nothing w/o them. They’ve built this traumatic bond w their abuser & can’t imagine life w/o them. If you’ve ever met a “Keyshawn” irl pls try to show compassion.
