What’s the best audiobook you’ve ever heard? I don’t mean, you love a book & oh it’s available in audio, I mean everything about the book suits the audio format AND the reader is wonderful, ITS SPECIFICALLY THE BEST YOU’VE EVER HEARD.

Signed, 15 hours of solo driving coming up
For me it was the Alan Partridge autobiography read by Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge and cranky, as my first ever audio book, it pretty much ruined me for all others. Tempted to redownload it tbh.
In lieu of audiobook I will take new podcast recommendations. Currently my reg rotation includes

Criminal/This Is Love
Reply All
Radiolab
Endless Thread
WTF
Desert Island Discs
Song Exploder
Heavyweight
99% Invisible
Ear Hustle
Trace
Not really into true crime as a grizzly genre (especially since I’ll be crossing receptionless patches of deserted outback on my own I NEED TO BE CALM NOT FREAKED OUT), and I hate two or more people waffling on & laughing endlessly at each other’s jokes in an undisciplined manner
“I hate two or more people waffling on & laughing endlessly at each other’s jokes in an undisciplined manner” - I was more than a little guilty of this when I first started radio & it was always the worst, most painful thing to hear to again in listening sessions with management
FYI listening sessions are when you go in a studio & relisten to a whole show w a manager at controls pressing pause at the worst bits & asking “why‘d you ask that? Can you hear yourself? You’re not even asking a question.” while you slowly dissolve into a puddle of self loathing
Anyway if I had to have undisciplined joy and pointless waffling beaten out of me on a soul crushing humiliating weekly basis I SURE AS HELL WON’T ALLOW OTHERS TO INDULGE IN IT IN MY EARS FOR RECREATION
