#HurricaneLaura update from #NewOrleans: The mutual aid group has delivered dozens of microwaves and mini-fridges. Food is minimal and often served cold. This is true of many hotel sites. This is one reason why we believe people need to be able to ask for what they need/want —
Fridges and microwaves aren’t usually on disaster response lists. They’re on ours because that’s what the people need, and because awesome neighbors/volunteers are making it happen. Community care continues to be beautiful here in #NewOrleans.
We’re also hearing reports of a pet fee. Unsure whether it’s the same at every hotel, but evacuated folks are being asked to pay $150 if they have a pet with them. We’ve been told that LASPCA will take them in, but we’re concerned bc pets offer much needed support in hard times.
As always, anyone in the #NewOrleans area is welcome to join the #MutualAid group to help out — find us on Facebook!
