Tarot of the Divine: Queer Readings
A Thread

Tarot is personal, your connection to a deck is personal That's what makes Tarot awesome!

Below are just some suggestions and added dimensions to consider with the cards. Feel encouraged to agree/disagree/create new meanings entirely
Quick plug, Tarot of the Divine and the book with all the stories Beneath the Moon is available wherever books are sold -- even world wide

Here is a thread of just a few places they are sold https://twitter.com/yoshisquared/status/1285618714981867522?s=20
The Fool -- The Little Mermaid

Now the little mermaid is read as a story about the bisexual Hans Christian Anderson in love with a straight man

Changing from a mermaid to a human has a potential Trans read too, especially the beginning process
Strength -- Tam Lin

While the original story has Janet wrestling her lover Tam Lin as he's transformed into various animals, here I have him mid transformation as the Goddess Ammit, devourer of impure hearts
The Hermit -- Druid and White Stag

Traditional Druids were any gender, and some of my favorites were transparently coded lesbians (Bodhmall and Liath Luachra)

Hermit cards are also possible Ace and/or Aro reads, or the need for personal inner reflection
Wheel of Fortune -- Anansi

This one is interesting. Anansi is a trickster, and like almost all traditional tricksters, he swaps genders and is constantly sleeping with all sorts of people society says he shouldn't (I love tricksters stories so much)
Death -- The Bear King Valemon

The death card is about the end of one phase of your life. You cannot go back. It's not necessarily bad, and it's likely very important, but it will be painful. From a Queer reading this could possibly be a coming out or a transition
Temperance -- Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara

The Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara changes genders to what is needed. (Pictured here mid-transition)

A possible gender fluid card, or an affirmation to change to the you that helps you achieve balance
As I head into the Minors, I just want to restate that these are just suggestions! Again, it's the readers intuition that is most important.

For me, the creator, I just wanted to make sure each card is stuffed with tons of symbolism so that you can find what you need
Also, just because I'm calling out these specific cards and their Queer potential readings does not mean that the other cards are 'default straight' Every card has the potential to have a queer reading-- just let the cards speak to you! No interpretation is 'wrong'
Two of Cups -- Enkidu and Gilgamesh

It's so gay

But if you're not gay, it's about a relationship with hardships that needs work to fulfill its full potential
Three of Cups -- Apsara

You've seen the sexy dancer carvings at Angkor Wat? Those are the Apsara, and they love a Good Time. This card could possibly be read as infidelity, but I also potentially see group sex, exploration, or open relationships
Nine of Cups -- Taj Al-Muluk and Princess Dunya

Princess Dunya said "I will marry no man" and Taj Al-Muluk basically said "What if I'm not a man?" I read this as a genderfluid person and a bisexual woman
Ten of Cups -- Julnar the Seaborn

The sea-princess Julnar fought with her family and left the sea. She goes on to marry a Sultan of the Land. Later she reconnects with her family.

Potentially found family, being rewarded for perusing your dreams, reconciliation
Page of Cups -- Bakunawa and the Seven Moons

Originally I drew this as the the boy moon Bulan who married the God of Death-- but that story is disputed. Still, there are a number of traditional gay or trans figures in Filipino mythology if you research some more (1/2)
Sampaguita flowers - "I promise you" are love flowers. And at Bulans (or Libulan) feet is the Chinese 'Rabbit' god of same sex relationships Tu'er Shen tying the red string of fate that binds lovers.

A young/blossoming/youthful love
Seven of Swords -- Coyote

Another trickster, Coyote changes gender constantly. Storytellers has been known to use a variety of pronouns throughout the recounting of a single story even when gender is not a core tenant of the tale.
Eight of Swords -- Donkeyskin

Once in a bad situation, Donkeyskin is now safe, but now her own fear holds her back. Potentially a coming out card, encouraging growth, or peruse that crush!
Page of Swords -- Princess Parizade

She's smarter and more athletic than her 2 older bothers. She succeeds at quests where they fail, and now she leads a band of princes, generals, and adventurers.

I don't know what Parizade's preferences are, but I'm gay for her
Four of Wands -- Mohini and Aravan

Aravan agreed to sacrifice himself in battle, and wanted to marry before he died. No woman wanted to be widowed so the the God Krishna assumed female form, Mohini, and married Aravan. A festival still celebrated in Tamil Nadu
Regarding Mohini and Aravan, it's part of a huge story and this is just a tiny piece of the Mahabharata. It's also celebrated by some of the trans community who in a festival to Aravan ritually marry and then mourn him. I highly recommend researching more about all of it!!
Knight of Wands -- Tatterhood

Born ridding a goat, wielding a wooden spoon, and wearing a tattered cloak, Tatterhood battles ogres for fun and tricks a cute soft prince into marrying her

Again, I don't know her preferences but she's just amazing
A little out of order, but I should mention: I think Princess Parizade is a great potential read for Ace and/or Aro. She's got this great life, has helped so many people, and the story ends with her feeling fulfilled and there is not a single love interest in sight
Hope this thread gives you a little more potential insight and ways to view the deck. Remember I put a ton of symbolism in here specifically so you could see what you need to see when you need to see it. Trust your instincts! And have fun!
