I, like so many teachers, have spent the last many weeks studying/preparing for/worrying about protocols, cleaning, safety, furniture, staff movement, position reassignments and all the rest of it. I am now wringing my hands at how I have NOTHING ready to go for Tuesday. (1/)
It’s daunting to even know where to start when a uniform scope & sequence was mandated and essentially given to us a week ago. We didn’t know our courses til last week or our timetables til a few days ago. I consider myself an expert and experienced teacher... (2/)
And yet am sitting here on my long weekend feeling totally overwhelmed and frozen with where to start. I got my kids through staggered entry and masking and sanitizing and had not a single break in 2 days for my own care or even washroom breaks. (3/)
Now trying to tackle all the prep that normally I would have been working on in July and August—in 1 to 2 days. If I am a skilled and seasoned teacher, I can’t imagine how teachers new to a job/grade/subject are feeling right now. (4/)
Check on your teacher friends. We are STRESSED OUT. Have grace for your children’s teachers, whether online or in-person. What are you doing this long weekend? I’ll bet every single teacher you know is working to make Tuesday and beyond a great success. (5/)
We shall grin & bear it. We love our kids (your kids). They are worth it all! But we wear masks right now in more ways than one. Like a duck, we are calm on the surface but paddling like mad underneath. We’ll make it-but your kindness & empathy means a lot to us right now. (/end)
