This ain’t it. This is such an incredibly dangerous mindset, @ginacarano, and shows a complete disregard for human life and lack of understanding of what’s going on both with Covid and protests. I work in a church. Since the shutdown began, we’ve been putting out virtual services https://twitter.com/ginacarano/status/1302484284624629760
For the congregation every week. In July when restrictions were somewhat lifted, we began doing an outdoor drive-in style worship so that folks could see each other and feel some of that community that they’ve been missing. We pass out communion in little sealed cups, we offer
hand sanitizer, everyone who’s not in a car wears a mask, the bulletin is sent out electronically. For those who don’t have computers or cannot leave their homes, the bulletins and hymns are sent via USPS. We are doing what we can while protecting the lives of our congregation,
ourselves, and everyone around us. The church is doing okay. People can worship anywhere they want and they can maintain their relationship with whatever higher power they believe in on their own. Additionally, I attend protests almost every day here in Detroit.
Because I can’t just sit by while Black and brown lives are brutally taken by a system that is designed to do just that. Police are still killing Black folks despite the pandemic. These protests are about the right to LIVE, Gina! They’re about stopping evictions and forced
in-person schooling without any kind of virus testing beforehand, they’re about access to clean water for everyone, they’re about ending the gentrification of neighborhoods that have been homes to Black and brown families for generations. They’re about abolishing ICE, who
continue to raid peoples’ homes and separate families and force them into barbaric camps or back to countries they ran away from, all while a GLOBAL PANDEMIC is happening. These things are not stopping because of Covid and while I am able to, at the very least, protest, I will
continue to do that. What you should be arguing in favor of here is the end to mass evictions while people can’t work, the end to landlords charging rent to people who are without employment because of Covid. You should be speaking in support of our chronically ill siblings who
are at a huge, huge risk right now. People are depressed because people are dying, because they can’t afford to pay their bills and landlords are coming after them, not because they can’t WORK. It’s so much more than that. We should be advocating for wearing masks,
washing your hands, and for a government that will help its citizens instead of providing bailouts to corporations that don’t need it.
