I've done what @LaFemmeAd does best: today I followed in Anne and Mariana's footsteps and visited the Mauritshuis in The Hague. Here are some of the things that I expect they saw on their 1 3/4 hour visit on 10 August 1831.

Anne and Mariana's NL trip took place 9 years after the birth of the Royal Picture Gallery at this location in 1822. As I walked around the museum I found myself checking the blurbs for acquisition dates to ascertain they would have seen the paintings. #anneandmarianaNL1831
This picture of Jane Seymour by Hans Holbein II would surely have drawn Anne and Mariana's attention. #anneandmarianaNL1831
So far I have seen no mention of my own last name in Anne's journals, but I have to admit that knowing that she must have taken some time admiring this painting by Rogier van der Weijden pleases me. #anneandmarianaNL1831
Seeing this picture tickled me, because Anne and Mariana had seen this grave of William the 1st in the cathedral in Delft just the day before. #anneandmarianaNL1831
I expect this was a painting that Anne would have spent some time admiring. Not just for the fame of the painter (Rembrandt van Rijn), but for the subject matter: 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp'. #anneandmarianaNL1831
In the travel notes Anne only mentions the museum fleetingly. What she writes about the rest of The Hague was not earth shattering either, but she was impressed by the pond around the houses of parliament... #anneandmarianaNL1831
I really liked The Hague today... Here's the Ridderzaal, which I think she must have meant with the old palace. #anneandmarianaNL1831
Here is what we call the Hofvijver, and what Anne refers to as a great lake... #anneandmarianaNL1831
