It's easy to forget that when Charles took to the streets to march against the Iraq War, it wasn't popular. He was attacked viciously for it. But it was the right thing to do, even though public opinion wasn't with him.
Then when the tide of opinion turned against Blair and the war, Charles was seen as a visionary and a strong leader. The @libdems were respected for their courageous stance. T
The @LibDems are a pro-Europe party and, as a party, we would rather Britain in the EU than out of it.
Choosing not to have a policy in favour of rejoining, when that is clearly what we want to do, is not "disrespecting public opinion", it's standing up for the 48% who votes to remain.
A political party that refuses to have policies that are unpopular has no place in politics.
No "now is not the right time". Now is the perfect time.

If not now, when?

Because the magic day will never come if nobody campaigns for it.
The public think that politicians U-turn all the time. Rejecting a 'rejoin' policy will be seen as a U-turn by the press and the public. We will be destroyed for it.
We are not a single issue party, nor do i want us to be, but when we are known for one big issue, abandoning that will be seen as a betrayal.
The transition period ends on 1st January and Brexit is going to start to really hurt. And by then, Britain needs a strong, unashamed, pro-EU voice.
Who are the small business owners going to turn to when their revenue is hit by trade tariffs, supply shortages and workforce issues?

Not the @libdems if even they don't support EU membership anymore.
Who are the European citizens going to turn to when Boris and Priti ship them back to their home countries?

Not the @libdems if even they don't support EU membership any more.
Who does every passionate Europhile vote for in 2024?

Not the @LibDems if even they don't support EU membership anymore.
Rest assured: SOME party will pick up this mantle. That's where those people will turn to.

It is not good politics to drop this ball now, nor is it the right thing to do.
