Was thinking about how Netflix shows get released in one big swing instead of released weekly/with space, so about a month ago I decided to start rewatching The Walking Dead just to see if being able to binge it ruins the experience
I think I felt the same way about the first season that I did when I first watched it. The action sequences are impactful and terrifying as they should be, the stuff in between draws you to the characters perfectly and makes any of them dying that much more hurtful, the season
ends on a bittersweet note about choosing to live even when the easy way out is so accessible. And being able to binge the season didn't make me less attracted to the show. In fact it kinda made me more attracted and into it.
I started on the second season pretty quick and there's just a tone change from the first episode that I just can't put my finger on. All of the elements are there that were in the previous season, and I can't say that they've really shifted what they wanted to show yet, but
there's something more dramatic going on here than in the first season. The first season was really speaking about surviving, surviving despite the world ending, and what surviving looks like between different people. The second season seems to be looking more towards
how surviving with other people would look and how those effects ripple out to everyone even if it's just between two people. I'm oddly taking the second season slower, a little bc I recall not enjoying it super much the first time, a little bc i'm not huge on that tone shift,
and also bc it's a little hard to handle sometimes. I just got to the part where Shane kills Otis "as bait" for him to escape, and that scene really fucks me up. Not only was it totally unnecessary on Shane's part, since they appeared to be fine enough to escape, but also
the way Otis fights Shane tooth and nail for shooting him just fucking hurts. The way Otis fought so hard just in that moment to survive for his right to live to be taken away by Shane is just big ouchie.
Anywho I perhaps may continue this thread as I keep watching the show but that scene really hurt to watch, I like instantly closed netflix after finishing it! so it might be a while
