prematurely takes the life of an individual

and has a huge effect,

dramatically affecting the lives of families, friends and communities.
more than 800 000 people die by suicide – one person every 40 seconds

Young people-- most affected;

now the second leading cause of death for those between the ages of 15 and 29 years globally

Nepal does not have reliable data related to suicide and attempted suicide

A 2014 scoping review of suicide in South Asia estimated the suicide rate in Nepal at 8.6 (SD = 8.87) per 100 000 population in Nepal

Alarms for suicidality:

Socially withdrawn/Isolated

Altered sleep and eating habits

Suffering from mental disorder

Low level of frustration tolerance, impulsivity

Lack of interest in pleasurable activities

Excessive alcohol consumption and abuse of other substances
Preventive measures:

early identification, treatment and care of people with mental and substance use disorders

training of non-specialized health workers in the assessment and management of suicidal behaviour
Talking about suicide doesn't increases the risk.
