Injuries put everything in perspective. This time a year ago I was broken and now I feel stronger than ever before. I think we need that low to get the high...
A mini thread on a couple of things that I think should be prioritized in injury recovery:

1) Sleep. Always take the extra hour of sleep over the extra hour of cross training. Your body needs to heal and this is the best tool.
2) Relationships. Work on developing your relationships to people and activities not directly related to your performance. For me volunteering with kids and coaching middle and high school allowed me to share my learned skills and see value in my work as a pro runner.
3) Don’t cross train as hard. This might be controversial but honestly xtraining sucks and it brought me no joy at all killing myself and still being widely out of shape when I returned to running. Focus on general strength and your foundation where you will build miles upon.
4) Meditate. Spoiler I’m still very bad at meditating but the @Headspace app every morning during my injury helped me reframe by day when I wanted to be out running. I treated it like brushing my teeth as a mandatory step in my morning routine. Highly recommend.
5) Say yes. This made more sense outside of a global pandemic context but it can still apply. Go to the concert, watch the movie, drink the glass of wine. Don’t restrict your happiness as a punishment of being injured. I still regret not going to that Head and the Heart show
I really could go on for a while but I called this a mini thread. TLDR: injuries suck, find a way to be happy to rebuild your body and mind https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💙" title="Blaues Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Blaues Herz">
