I feeel like I wanna start a thread abt the horrific incident tht terjadi at Mount Kinabalu. (2015, Kinabalu Earthquake) & ofc I will cakap in my own slang mix mix
Dis cerita, straight from âmalim gunungâ one of whom, âmayat retrieversâ

So like dis, my sister told me the whole story from a malim gunung which was her âhiking guiderâ?? Idk.
But yes, she was at Gunung Maragang for a hiking trip, and camping la semua sna. So ofc they had to have a guider.

Uno poquito fact abt the Gunung Maragang is at 2232m and the Gunung Kinabalu at 4095m. So mcm Maragang ni kind of half of Kinabalu laa so to say

Numero uno:

when he was still a kinabalu guider for tourists and that dia pun involved in the search and rescue during the 2015 kinabalu earthquake

Numero dos:
So u kenn c here on June 5, the earthquake happened at 7:15am. Semua tourists, locals, MGs everibadi, tak kene suruh go up or like to proceed (ofcozla) and like they were some at the Laban Rata (that place is a homestay for pendakis bfore proceeding to the top)

Basically tempat tu for rest2 la tido2 dulu minum kopi dulu bfore sambung climbing the gunung
this homestay is at 3272m above sea level . So kan, ramai gak ppl here, so they were stuck there la for sometime until it was safe for them to gooo down.

And of course, there were a number of ppl at the peak during that time.
9am, MGs semua kene suruh tunggu, until 3pm, âjgn naik dulu, jgn naik duluâ
Imagine 6hrs the ppl up there sna puncak mcm mna oh. Scary giler. Mau tdk mau, the MGs, dari Laban Rata, started climbing to the peak.
Of course during the wait, bomba, rela, tentera, ambulance

panggil. But like since they were like far down the Kinabaluâs foot, MGs dulu la search and rescue. And like I said, they journeyed from Laban Rata.
Numero trĂšs:
Along the way to the peak, dorang cari survivors dulu. From the MG himself, from what my sister has been told, survivors that he encountered was, one orang putih and a child, which was a primary school student.

So the MG had to angkat him la like piggy back ride him, and he kept on screaming and shouting, (bcuz he was physically hurt and mentally traumatised) dahlah MG tu stress bagai en, apa lagi, tu MG sumbat mulut tu orang dgn epal la.
(dari mana tu epal? He came prepared I guess)

The kid, yg primary school tu, kesian gilaaa
He or she, tak pasti, but he was standing at somewhere idk screaming for help, alone in the cold breeze
and his
bones were broken .

Numero quatro:
Oh ya, when the MGs like mau dekat2 alr the peak, what they saw on the âFerrataâ, were dead bodies hanging on it. Like along the ferrata and around the area la, DEAD BODIES, tergantung on the Ferrata.
(This is a Ferrata at the Kinabalu)

The MGs dont refer the dead as âmayatâ they call it âbarangâ. So mcm they were having a short discussion la, âokey, kita angkat semua tu âbarangâ...â and like they went on for a day retrieving dead bodies. Naik turun naik turun.
The thing is, they angkat the barang, on their-

backs. No carrier no nothing. (It took sometime for the tentera, rela, ambulance & bomba to come up at the Laban Rata, mcm mna tdk, its at 3272m
) anyway, yeee they carried all of THEM on their backs.

Any sight of human remains ke apa, ambil ambil ambil. For the sake of DNA la, siapa ini siapa itu. Angkat âbarangâ, journey back to Laban Rata. And rasanya dari area2 Ferrata to Laban Rata bukan main lagi jauh dia.
Naik turun ba

with a dead person ure carrying.
Naik turun ba

The walls of the rock, all smeared in human blood. Bodies dah jatuh2 kat down there, and they have to get off trail to cari the barang. Of coz la MG themselves pun takod, ingat orang2 karas tdk pandai takut meh.

walls are still there. Fresh af looking. It was preserved, kan sejuk2 lagi sana. Now, if ure going to the Kinabalu, I donât think ull see it bcause it faded into the rock kan. (Make sense no? Yes)
Numero five:(whats five in spanish)
So you could imagine the horrific sight that was happening at the Laban Rata (especially).
A number of dead bodies, even body parts man..tangan ada, jantung pun ada. Theyâll even take a piece of skin, just to know who it belongs to.

Tapi mmg gilaaa la I respect those Malim Gunungs, they did that in a day. U might think that its like oh thats normal to climb a 4095m gunung in a day, up and down. But no plis.
Dorang naik turun naik turun, angkat âbarangâ, cari any human remains, survivors around the mountain!! Not only along the trail. Boleh imagine baa, malam alr, gelap, sejuk with the embun, pakai torchlight searching for bodies. Sape tak takod?? What if u terserempak a face in-
the bushes. It certainly does take guts to get through.
So much respect at everyone who were involved in the search and rescue especially to the Malim Gunungs

Im just amazed at their commitment, bravery semua lah.

supposed to looked for lah. And so medical staff did la.
Sorry if like I cerita jump2 all over, its bcause I myself couldnt digest this gruesome story/experience by the Malim Gunung who was involved.
Like can u imagine, up there, falling or something, kena kempis batu

- its like, during that time I couldve been sad over a cancelled drama series, n at the same day, kecoh at the Kinabalu.
As I was listening to my sister talking abt this, I felt like crying. It was soo saddening. Itâs like a hint of realisation to be always thankful!!!
