A scouting report on Lee Jae-sung today after watching him in preseason. Used the quoted thread to explain Paik Seung-ho’s struggles with playing on the turn to face the attacking half. Lee Jae-sung is the polar opposite with his ability to maneuver smoothly on the ball. Thread👇🏻 https://twitter.com/realstevescores/status/1299813362994352128
A clip from highlights of Lee Jae-sung’s performance vs. Wolfsburg yesterday. Look at how effortlessly he eases himself out of a tight space by turning away from pressure without even applying his first touch to face the goal followed by a strong drive into the attacking half.
Lee Jae-sung receives a pass with his back to the attacking half, but before reception, he turns his head quickly whilst maintaining proper body orientation to locate his marker. He then collects the pass, uses the limited space available, and speeds up to penetrate the defence.
During a scramble in midfield, Lee Jae-sung positions himself effectively and recovers possession. His first touch uses the limited space to his benefit. He then hits a clever pass on his second touch to open up the sequence, which leads to action inside the opposition box.
Effective positioning by Lee Jae-sung even whilst making a mazy run into the box. It’s a 7-pass sequence that results in an excellent goal for Holstein Kiel. Three of those seven passes are played on one touch by Lee, whose run, positioning and body orientation are impeccable.
It’s clear that Lee Jae-sung’s positioning, body orientation, ability to select the direction of his turns, and timing of his intensive runs are all second nature to him. His game intelligence is so great that he only needs to apply 3 touches to advance 30 yards on the ball 🤯
