'Intro: Persona' is a heavily thoughtful and self-reflective lyrical piece that Joon has brought to life, which revolves around his truest, innermost and most prominent desire: to not only recognize but also understand his one true self amongst the many versions that he has+
The many roles he plays in his life, n to never forget his one true want in life that led him to start his musical journey and continue it, while confronting his concealed reluctance, all into lyrics, just his insanely genius mind n originality making me fall in love w him more+
The way I see it, this rap track is a musical monologue, in the sense that he is looking into himself: self-reflecting over himself and his true identity amongst the many that he owns, thinking over his worries and concerns and pouring it all into words that justify his thoughts+
And emotions. This isnt an identity crisis, its more along the lines of self-discovery, which comes in when you're having to play various distinctly different roles in the game of life, so you take a step back and think about who you really are at the end of the day+
So, Joon is introducing himself to his Persona, both literally and figuratively while offering us an insight into his wise mind filled with thoughts and concerns, so as to know him better. Joon opens the rap with the q. Of recognising his true self while admitting that he might+
Never be able to get the answer to it: there's a reason why this has been so immensely intricate by making his many roles so very different from one another and the thoughts of not knowing the answer somewhat bothers him, more so when there are people out there loving and+
Respecting him, validating and honouring him with titles for his contribution to the industry, while some are blatantly throwing shade on him and hating him for reasons he doesn't understand, the feeling grows with increasing fame, w people telling him how to to proceed. Joon+
Compares 'run' to encouragement, while 'stop' to hate, 'forest' to the bigger picture while 'flowers' to the details as is evident, he confronts his insecurity and reluctance as Joon raps, "My shadow, I wrote it and called it hesitation", implying his admittance to his shadow+
Symbolic of his reluctant self which holds him back and has never stopped depriving him of several golden opportunities since. Joon cleverly uses the physical form of Shadows casted under light, comparing them even to the stage lights suggesting that his insecurities+
And reluctance follow him around, just like his shadow, even in the most glorious, phenomenal and brightly lit moments of his life , like while performing on stage-cuz the brightest lights cast the darkest shadows, and it makes him wonder if he is deserving of all the love, fame+
Glory, support, respect, validation, honour, titles and awards, and he overcomes all of these doubts by reminding himself of what made him continue his musical journey: the fact that people were listening to him and his music, to what he had to say, he started to gain a voice+
However, as time passed and his fame grew, his uncomfortable feeling only grew in secret, about which Joon raps, "The world is actually not interested in my clumsiness at all", realising the public demand the 'Perfect' version of him, neglecting his adorable imperfections that+
Make him so very real and original, just like any other guy and not just an idol, which, of course, gave him the opportunity to work on certain faults and flaws so as to improve himself, but also concealing a part of his imperfect, real self which is apparently not preferred by+
The mass. Joon states that some of his past faults disgust him (to this day), more than regret, wishing he could go back in time and fix them, while he has fix some, he can't help the other situations so, right from then he chose to educate himself of his faults so as to improve+
Himself, which he applies to this day, he basically made a peace agreement with himself to not to let his mind hover and understand why he has been pointed out. At this point, Joon did a mental time travel from when they started out to where they are now and reflected on his+
Growth since then: as an artist and as a human, his ability to deal with criticism and hate since them, all via a monologue presented to us thru a song. These lyrics(via @Genius ) are of utmost importance, as he scans his memories from the past to the present and realizes how+
His 'Persona' which Joon refers to as his 'social self' has impacted his personal life and thoughts as an artist and as an individual, given him a new perspective, his 'social self' refers to the artist that he is more than his person he is, n all of his previous n present stage+
Names begin with 'R'. He is now back in reality, stating how he created these versions as time passed to vent out himself, he realizes how he must have deceived himself in the past but not anymore, however, he acknowledges the past because of all the knowledge+
He was able to gain for the purpose of correcting all of his faults and mistakes of the past, improving and enhancing himself in terms of his music, knowledge, values, and morality which has made him the incredibly wise, empathetic, thoughtful and insightful person that he is+
He now realizes n voices it that it's not the titles he receives that defines him, he defines himself and openly talks about( via @Genius ) his emotions n concerns, his happiness n sorrow, with people, who love him and care about him enough to help him in improving and creating+
A redefined version of himself every single day as he makes continuous progress towards becoming better than the best (read more angelic than he is rn). He still is in search of his true self, amongst the many versions he owns but looking back in time only reminds him of his +
True desire of pursuing music, his true want in life which stands true till date: to comfort people thru his music, to be there for them thru his music, to be able to stand by people n let them voice thru his music, be the shoulder for many to cry on, rely on, to break down on.
In conclusion, Joon discloses his many Personas and the growth n evolution that followed suit, journey from the past to present-where he stands with the question of his true self getting louder nd his true desire of comforting people thru music, only growing stronger everyday
.
