A brief Kids See Ghosts writeup

I relistened recently and it's grown on me quite a lot so I'm gonna write about it, a bit. Haven't done these in a while so retweets are much appreciated

It's been two fast years since we got this bite-sized collaboration project and in that time it's become one of the most revered albums here, justifiably so. It's more organized and more innovative than ye (an album I still have a lot of issues with).

It's very much Blonde-esque in that it's got great potential for being more a personal companion than an album, you relate to it so much that listening to it is like a regular activity, to help you through your feelings and such.

On the production side I previously leaned towards Daytona from the 2018 releases but I now I find KSG to be a lot more colorful and varied, with more personality to it. Within 25 minutes they both break a lot of sonic boundaries with effortless chemistry.

I love both of their performances on this. Kanye coming off really wild and raw, turning in some great verses while Cudi's vocal harmonies here on tracks such as the opener and the closer are absolutely beautiful.

Album centerpiece Reborn is a soothing, deep five-minute experience with a really great Kanye verse but Cudi montage is my favourite track, with the chorus here and the well-chosen Kurt Cobain sample.

I wasn't a fan of either back in 2016 when they had beef but I imagine it must've hurt for people back then to see these two turn away from each other and it must feel good now to see them back together at the top of their musical game.

And it really is the top of their game, I think it's gonna age as one of Kanye's best projects. It's also a bright spot in what I feel is a drop-off for Kanye, post-TLOP. It's both of them really bringing out the best in each other.

I don't know where this duo will go from here but what they have is too valuable to throw away I think, I definitely expect a return of some sort (even if it will be half-Christian). As for now these 25 minutes have as much replay value as something twice it's length.
