LET'S TALK ABOUT PENNSYLVANIA VOTER REGISTRATION CHANGES

Do these changes in partisan voter registrations really matter ? Let's use some historical data to evaluate.

(1) In 2012, Barack Obama carried the state. Between November 2011 and November 2012, there were 339,761 added voters, of whom 125,943 were Democrats and 103,823 were Republicans. Between 2011-2012, voter registration went from 51-37% to 50-37% Dem/Rep

(2) In 2016, Trump carried the state. Between November 2015 and November 2016, there were 649,752 added voters, of whom 244,351 were Democrats and 320,718 were Republicans. Between 2015-2016, voter registration went from 49-37% to 48-38% Dem/Rep

(3) Between November 2019 and August 31, 2020, there were 194,583 added voters, of whom 61,489 were Democrats and 116,520 were Republicans. Between 2019-August 31, 2020, voter registration went from 48-38% to 47-38.5% Dem/Rep

And while the number of voters added this year seems less relative to prior election cycles, the steady dilution of the Democratic voter registration plurality is worth noticing. What was +916K and a 10.5% plurality in November 2016 is now +759K and 8.7%
