So, so sadden to hear tragic news that perhaps @KentuckyMBB most gifted athlete ever, Dwight Anderson has died at the age of 38. Known as “The Blur,” he became an instant star in a terrific win over Notre Dame, but left UK in middle of his soph. year with off-the-court issues.
Dwight transferred to Southern Cal after leaving UK. Anderson was from Roth High in Dayton, Ohio, and I remember first meeting him and his parents when UK beat Michigan State in 1978 Elite Eight played in UD Arena in Dayton. Wonderful parents eager to see their son do better.
But the life of Dwight Anderson was always difficult, to say the least. Throughout his teens, he struggled to avoid bad environments. Yet, Dwight was so likeable and fun to be around. A documentary was made in 2015 after his playing days as he was trying to turn his life around.
His battles off the court led to a homeless life after his pro basketball career fizzled due to his addiction to drugs and alcohol. So sad and so well liked. Going to miss you Dwight. You’re in a better place today. You have suffered too long. Rest In Peace. @KentuckyMBB
Dwight was 56 years old.
*Age correction. Dwight was 59 years old. Would have been 60 in December of this year.
