Why hasn’t there been a Whitney Houston biopic? A dark take on a girl from Newark who made some of the best music of the 80s & 90s while being forced to appeal to a largely white audience and simultaneously being rejected by a segment of the Black audience for being “too white”.
There is a very depressing, almost nihilistic, take on her career that would quite frankly be an amazing film with the right actress, director, and screenwriter.

It deals with self preservation, race, drugs, abuse, and unfortunate self discovery.
I mean, think about it? Did the label make Whitney Houston‘s career or did the label drive Whitney Houston to where she ended?

how much of a mask did she wear throughout her career?

Was she ever able to enjoy her career making music that she apparently was never 100% behind?
The more I think about Whitney Houston, the crazier the story is. I had no idea the difficulty she was going through during her career. My parents, myself, my friends, we thought her music was amazing. But listening to it now it’s got a much darker feel to it.
The Bobby Brown relationship made no sense when it happened in real life. In retrospect those to make perfect sense together.
I don’t even know if it 2 1/2 hour movie would cover it. Miniseries? Or even better, a really well-made documentary. Not some behind the music crap.
This thread came together after I heard “I Have Nothing” this morning, which coincidentally would be a great title for this imaginary film/documentary/series. /rant
