Ppl aren’t a monolith, right? But there is such think as collective behavior/shared experience with fellow countrymen. One thing coronavirus has put on full display is how absolutely selfish America is, from top to bottom. W/e other countries say negative about us, we proved it.
And I think that’s what disappoints the most about America, or at least a major factor. Every time there’s an opportunity to be better, to care about people, we’re just like “Nah.” or we prove we only care about a certain type of person. And we know who those are.
I watched “The Morning Show” last night & a character had an excellent quote (this is not exact, I’m tailor fitting it), “You don’t grow a conscious overnight. You grow a conscious when the powers at be who encouraged your complicity, give you permission to.” THAT’S America
America never just wakes up and decides to do the right thing for the sake of humanity. Never in the history of this country has that happened. They only do it when they have been pressured and feel they have no choice and disguise it as “free will”. The free will to do nothing.
...or the free will to exploit and oppress, of course.
I just woke up thinking about how America truly is and how people simply fall into its complicity of deception so easily and what encourages that. It’s disheartening. It’s disappointing. It’s truly unfortunate. But hey, we’re American, to each their own right?
I think about what Fred Hampton said about how we MUST draw a distinction between us, the people, and the pig, although I always felt when he said “pig” he meant any oppressor. And people seem so unwilling to do that. Blurred lines offers individuals so much benefit.
