A while back I opened up about the harmful anti-feminist culture at @tudelft. While I have lots of first hand stories, I also want to share a recent event that really shook me, even given my very low expectations.
TL;DR: TU Delft considers "feminism" to be extremist. A thread:
A former colleague forwarded me the contract that student associations have to sign to take part in the introduction week, which has the clause "it is not desirable to express [...] (anti-)feminism". Refusal to sign means associations cannot take part. I was like: WUT?!
Rather than tweeting about this utter madness straight away, I reached out to several people at TU Delft. Surely this must have been a mistake of some sort. Please take a minute to appreciate A) my self-restraint in this matter and B) my optimism this clause was unintentional.
This is what I got back, after weeks, through someone still working there (translated from Dutch): "It has been put into the contract this year because we do not want extreme expressions in any form whatsoever, in order to strengthen the group feeling and to prevent polarization.
It was not our intention to insult groups with this, perhaps it could have been better or differently worded".

So yeah, TU Delft (represented here by people organizing OWee: the official opening week) call feminism to be EXTREMIST and CAUSING POLARIZATION.
I will close this thread with a reminder that the definition of feminism is the belief that men and women are equal and should have equal rights. If that is extremist to you, what kind of show are your running really?
Also: this issue has costs me hours of my own free time and lots of relived trauma. I dove into the issue because I really truly thought I could fix this, that it all would change if I would just explain things. (A perfect summary of the final years I spent there)
