@ManUtd had an above average Premier League season in 2019-20. Solskjaer's men secured the UCL spot for the next season but that was mainly because other clubs slipped up bad. In this thread, I conduct a review of the season through data from @StatsBomb via @fbref.

On a high level, @ManUtd had a pretty decent win% in the league but had a good amount of draws which could have been reduced further. The attack performed above their potential. In the entire season, United scored 27 goals more than expected.

There is not much difference between @ManUtd's home and away record. Both leave plenty of room for improvement. Looking at how the club progressed throughout the season, they started off very slow and the gradient steeped out only after @B_Fernandes8 joined the side.

Goalkeeping was a department which was criticized a lot last season. @D_DeGea conceeded 15 more goals than the best performer in the league. Also de Gea's numbers in terms of passes/goal kicks made over 40 yards reflect Solskjaer's passingout from the back approach.

Although @ManUtd's defence conceeded only 35 goals in the league last time, their performance further up the field was quite disappointing. @awbissaka seems to be the only one good at it even though his numbers pale in comparison to the leaders. Area for improvement.

@B_Fernandes8 and @paulpogba dominate this graphic. Without them and as it was seen for much of last season, @ManUtd just doesn't click in terms of creating chances and breaking oppositions open. Even though Bruno had far less game time, he had the best SCA/90.

The passing numbers of @ManUtd's midfielders were not great from last season. @paulpogba and @B_Fernandes8 were the only midfielders who made more than 1 passes into the penalty area on an avg. United have taken action already in this regard by buying @Donny_beek6.

@Fred08oficial stands out among @ManUtd's midfielders in terms of blocks made. But @paulpogba seems to be applying the most successful pressures in the league in terms of %. @Ndidi25's numbers are incredible here !

And ending of with an appreciation for @ManUtd's forwards, especially @AnthonyMartial, @MarcusRashford and @masongreenwood. In terms of exceeding their expectations, United's forwards were the best in the league and ranks above @LFC in terms of goals scored.

All in all, there are lots of room for improvement. @ManUtd's squad strength is particularly of concern and if rumors are to be taken, the club is working to improve in that regard. RW, LB, CB are the priority and perhaps a better 2nd CF than @ighalojude would also do good.
